Gundel Restaurant - Elisabeth Room
The restaurant was founded in 1894 in the beautiful City Park. It became very popular very soon.
Rooms like their Queen Elisabeth Ballroom, with a sense of place and history, where the gilded stucco glitters, the cuisine pleases and the service is carefully choreographed. After entering through the grand marble staircase, you arrive at the ballroom, which is a happy syntheses of yesterday and today. It is a perfect stage for every type of function from the state dinner for Elisabeth II, the Queen of England on May 5th 1993, to the glittering princess wedding for Walburga von Habsburg shortly after Gundel reopened its doors.
The reborn Gundel has all the ingredients that make a great restaurant: venerable history; elegant interiors recalling the golden age of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, complete with an important collection of the greatest Hungarian painters' work of the period; marble terrace overlooking a romantic park-like garden; an unmatched cuisine and the world's largest selection of Hungarian wines, including the famous Tokaj from Gundel's own vineyard, which can be sampled as part of wine-tasting dinners in the St. Orbán and Zsuzsanna wine cellars. The discreet sound of Hungary's foremost gypsy orchestra is the perfect background to Gundel's classic cuisine.
